Potterton Kingfisher Mf floor standing boiler

Owners of Potterton Kingfisher Mf floor standing gas central heating boilers, installed since 1 October 1997, are alerted to a potential electronic fault, whereby there is a small risk of gas escaping from the boiler, out through the flue into the outside atmosphere.

As a precaution and in the interests of safety Potterton recommends that owners of Kingfisher Mf boilers with a flue pipe rising vertically from the boiler, switch off their boiler immediately, by turning the thermostat knob, which is located on the grey front panel of the boiler, anti-clockwise to its lowest setting ‘0’. For added safety switch off the electrical supply to the boiler. All Kingfisher Mf owners who have had their boiler installed after 1st October 1997 irrespective of the flue type should then contact the Potterton helpline on 0800 783 2937 to arrange for the boiler to be checked.

Update - March 2012

We queried this recall with Heateam and received the following clarification:

I have managed to speak to one of my colleagues who was around at the time of the recall notice.

The situation as it stands today is that from a possible 9300 boilers, 2 boilers were found to have defective electronics on the PCBs.

A recall was issued in the national press and we offered a free service visit so that we could inspect the appliances, we went out to approx 6000 appliances but never found any further problems, and have never had any problems since.

As it was a recall we will still honour a safety visit on appliances that may have been affected, this would be done using the serial number on the data badge and only relates to appliances with a serial number that starts 808 or lower.
